
The National Association of Political Science Students legislative council on Friday, June 28th, 2019 held her first sitting of the academic session at Room 022.
The proceedings of the meeting which was presided over by the Senate President, Sen. Aminat ADEKOYA commenced with the reading of last minutes of the Senate council.
This was followed with deliberation on the budget of the electoral committee (NAPSSIEC) which was presented by the chairman, Mr. Adewale ORIOLA. The budget upon scrutiny by members of the House present was approved.
Accordingly, proposal for NAPSS dues for the academic session was presented by the president-elect of the executive council, Mr. Thomas AJAYI. Following series of arguments, debates, motions and counter-motions, the BASIC DUES of freshmen and stalites were pegged at #5,000 and #2,000 respectively. With OPTIONAL DUES ranging from #2,000 for freshmen and #4,000 for stalites.
With questions over the compulsory payment for either Shirts or Dinner by freshmen. It was finally agreed to that Shirts due shall be compulsory for all freshmen after Nine (9) senators voted in support of this.
Some of the breakdown of the aforementioned dues proposal include; Package – #800; Senate Allocation – #300; Press Allocation – #100; L & D Allocation – #100; NAPSS Week – #500; Executive Allocation/Capital Project – #200 and Fresher’s Welcome/Picnic – #1,000. The fresher’s welcome/picnic event was made mandatory for all freshmen, though this was not without a heated debate and consideration.
Afterwards, the formulation of House committees and voting of constituency leaders took place. The sitting was brought to adjournment after the discussion of proposed Senate seminar/workshop.
The sitting had in attendance 14 distinguished senators.
